We hear it on the news everyday issues of discrimination and racism and today, one of the fastest ways to grow or destroy the image of a brand depends on how discrimination is handled within the organization.
For instance, information showing internal practices in an organization which are developed to prevent people of a social class or belonging to a racial group, from advancing in their careers will destroy how the organization is viewed and this will definitely affect the bottom line of the organization and call for drastic measures to restore the overall public perception of the organization.
On the other hand, an organization showing transparency and support for people of various social classes and races is often commended for their exceptional work to reduce discrimination in our society today. When we talk about discrimination, the first thought that comes to the minds of people is whites discriminating against other races, which is true in many cases however, discrimination does not stop there. People often care about discrimination between different races and such cases often go viral however in the society today, discrimination is not only in terms of race, and it goes much deeper than that in fact.

A very good example is the case in Nigeria where people of the same race have showed so much discrimination based on ethnicity and religion yet many within the country still believe, discrimination is something done by people of other races. Whereas within the country, your ethnicity could determine if you get a job after an interview, if you get the promotion in your place of work, if you get help in times of need, or if you get support from the government. Speaking to a few people on the issue revealed some mind blowing cases compare to white on black discrimination we see on the news every day.
An individual born in a state was denied government allowance which was for students born in the state because his birth name did not correspond with the common names of people from the state. Another individual was denied entry to an event because he looked of different ethnicity. You could go to a pub or club to have a nice time with friends and you could be singled out and denied entry because you look of different ethnicity. This is the norm in a country like Nigeria and it has become public perception on how things are done. It is normal to give an unfair advantage to a person of your ethnicity and the society has degenerated into the “my people versus everyone else”. One thing all these cases have in common is that these are individuals of the same race, same country, who mostly share physical features, however, due to ethnicity, they are denied their rights as citizens of the country.
Most people only care about discrimination when it’s between whites and other races but the truth of the matter is that, discrimination within a country of mostly people of the same race can be much worse but no one seems to focus on it because the latter does not support their agenda. In many nations of the world with people of mostly the same race, discrimination is rampant based on ethnicity and religion which makes you wonder why the word discrimination is associated with white racists.
